This was the first time I saw him at the "shelter".

Connor
Golden Lab, maybe 8 or 9 years old
Adopted, but came back because he was too "aggressive"...not an aggressive bone
in his body...
except to his sworn enemy...anyone in a vet's office!
Connor's Dogster Page
^That was then and this is now!^
Doesn't he just look so happy?!
Winston
Yorkie, about 3 years old
On the left is what he looked like at the shelter. Within minutes of
getting this picture I emailed the shelter to "put my name on him"! On the
right is what he looks like after grooming. I can't believe no one claimed
him. It just goes to prove...small purebred dogs do end up in shelters!

Phil and Lil
Mother was pure bred black cocker spaniel, father was golden retriever,
german shepherd, chow mix.
Lil died of a congenital heart defect at about 4 years old, Phil was hit by a
car at about 6 years old (10/05).

who need their own

Gracie Adopted
Little black dog, 1-2 years
Got call from shelter that they had a 6 month old lab/golden puppy. I told
them to send it to the vet and I would pick it up when it was vetted.
Imagine my surprise when the vet called and said she was 1-2 years old and only
23 pounds! I guess that rules out lab! It all worked out for her as
she was adopted into a home that loves her very much.

Churchill
Yorkie, "middle aged" <-vet's word
I went to the shelter to take pictures of some dogs to post for rescues.
Couldn't believe this dog was going to have to stay there for 5 days because the
parish refuses to treat dogs. They only get vetted for adoption or
killing. In the picture on the right, he was waiting to see the vet.
He was a little wiggle worm! Like his partner in crime (Winston, above
<-get it? Winston and Churchill? :) he is a sweetheart! Going for second
eye surgery on 11/10/09. Will be available for adoption when recovered.

Sami Jean Adopted
Lab/Shepherd mix, 3-4 months old
Sami was rescued from a house in my neighborhood. She was tied to a truck
about 3 feet from the street, but with a cable that was about 15 feet long.
I convinced her owner to let me find the puppy a new home. A life on a
chain is no life at all. A few days later she came down with parvo.
The vets can no longer afford to give rescue rates to treat parvo, so I treated
her myself. Five and a half days of subcutaneous fluids, tamiflu, and
nausea medication later, she acted like she was never sick! Was adopted
and is now in a great home.
Cocoa AKA Cara Adopted
Golden Retriever, 1 year old
Family could not keep due to daughter's illness. They were so sad to see
her go.
Luckily she was adopted by another family with kids close to the same ages
as her first home. Very sweet girl with no tail!
Georgie Adopted
Poodle, 5-6 years old
Sadly, a
month after he was adopted, he had a seizure and died. He was a great dog
and is greatly missed.

Leo
Now
Fostered in New England
Leo was found digging in garbage. He was emaciated and had a severe
heart murmur. He was covered in oil.
After gaining weight, his heart murmur was downgraded and he is in a foster home
in New England awaiting adoption. He doesn't know he is 10 years old!

Jade
and Aiden
Adopted

lab mixes, 3-4 months old
Jade is laying down in the first picture. Sadly she died of parvo.
My first one to not make it.
Aiden survived and is in a great home! The last picture shows Aiden fully
recovered just before he left for his new home.

Dixie Lou Adopted
I only had her for one night
before she was adopted.
She arrived at the vet with a rubber band embedded in her front leg that had to
be surgically removed.

Sammy, Alyssa, and Woody Adopted!
lab mixes/3-4 months old
I drove 3 hours to pick these puppies up only to have them break with parvo the
next day.
They all lived to be adopted into great homes! The last picture is Woody
in his new home (about 8 months later)

Baxter Adopted
Chocolate Lab, older
He always looked so sad, but he went to a great home!

Casey Adopted
Yorkie mix, 1-2 years old

Molly Mae and Madison Adopted!
Golden Retriever, 6 months old and mother 18 months old

Spencer Adopted!
Black lab mix, 7 weeks old
Spencer was abandoned under someone's carport. They brought her to
a vet who called us to take him in. He is a sweetie with very unusual
coloring! He is black, but has a tan undercoat.

Cindy Adopted!
Cocker Spaniel, adult, age unknown
Cindy was rescued from St. John Animal Shelter. She is the sweetest dog!
She loves to assume "cuddle position" and get some love!
She also just likes to sleep at your feet and spend time with you. She
loved taking care of the puppies that I was puppysitting!

Ella Adopted!
Black Labrador Retriever, 6 weeks
Ella wandered away from her mommy and was found in someone's yard. She
ended up at the shelter and, well, I couldn't just leave her there! You
would know why if you could just hold her for one second. Whoever does
that just doesn't want to give her back!

You can watch her grow up here!
Emma Adopted! Labrador Retriever Mix, 4 months
*Member of the Doggy Protection Program*

Mackey Adopted
West Highland White Terrier (Westie),2-3 years
I was outside cutting my grass when this man stopped by to see if I knew where
this dog belonged. He had found him wandering around his business on
Airline Hwy. Not wanting him to go to the shelter, I offered to try to
find his home. He is heartworm negative, fecal negative, and has no
microchip. None of the local vets recognize him. We will vet him,
neuter him, shave him, and put him up for adoption soon!

^Before
^After

Eric Adopted
8 weeks old/Lab mix
We got a call from the shelter that there were 2 mothers and 12 puppies
and no room. They were headed straight to the vet for euthanasia.
Now how could we let that happen?!

Alli Adopted
8 weeks old/Lab Mix
Alli is Eric's sister. Now look at that sweet face! This time looks
are NOT deceiving :)

We got the other 8 puppies rescued as well. All arrived safely in Port
Washington, NY at North Shore Animal League! You can see their arrival
here.

Riley Adopted!
Golden Retriever, 1-2 years

Jax
Adopted!
Rat terrier/Chihuahua mix, 2 years old
Foster Dog

Who would have thought this lab and golden girl would foster a cute little dog
like this?! Look at that face. He smiled at me, wagged his tail, and
held that head high. His look said, "Hey, Lady! Don't leave me here!"
The rest is history...

Kyle Adopted!
mystery mutt (golden/husky or shepherd/australian shepherd mix?), 7 months old
I was supposed to bring him to boarding but he had a cough so he came here for a
few days...once they come they don't leave until they are adopted! I am
such a softie!
